BREAD DOUGH A NO-NO FOR DOGS AND CATS
As the holidays descend upon us, there'll be many cooks in the
kitchen--but don't spoil your pet by giving him bread dough.
According to Jill A. Richardson, DVM, of the ASPCA Animal Poison
Control Center (APCC), when bread dough is ingested, an animal's
body heat causes the dough to rise in the stomach. As alcohol is
produced during the rising process, the dough expands. Pets
who've eaten bread dough may experience abdominal pain,
bloat, vomiting, disorientation and depression.

Our Playday scheduled for December 14, 2002 has been cancelled due to its proximity to the Holidays. A Spring Play Day will be announced soon. Details to follow, but anyone interested in helping out, please contact Claire at batearstx@aol.com Remember, you don't have to be a member of BNNTC to enjoy the festivities of our Playday.
(10/02) (I'm certain I've missed some of the news here and hope members will augment what is posted)
The biggest news is that NNTC approved our application for a supported entry in 2003 in conjunctio with the Houston cluster in July!! Anyone interested in working toward a fun and successful weekend, please contact Claire Johnson at batearstx@aol.com
Our application for a supported entry followed by a Roving NNTC specialty for 2004 is to be voted on by mail by the NNTC Board. The Board voted to have annual Roving specialties now, and since our club and PANNTC both applied for the roving in 2004, the Board decided that the club not awarded 2004 will be awarded 2005.
Montgomery County weekend surely made history again as the HOTTEST. For the first three days, exhibitors scrambled around for something cool enough to wear, with some coming up with pretty interesting outfits (grin). Sunday dawned beautiful, clear and cool - the best!! From the pictures I've seen of the Agility events, that venue was a really fun mud party at least some of the weekend.
BNNTC members left their mark this Montgomery weekend, capping it off with the Norwich Sweepstakes judging on Sunday by Betty Bossio. Betty dispatched her duties with authority and efficiency through a very credible Sweeps entry. Congratulations, Betty! Norwich breeder/owner/handler Jan Birchall's special, Sir Gallahad made the cut on more than one day in a very large class of specials, as did The Island's Golden Sands, handled by member Judi Hartell, P.H.A., and from across the waves, Norwich Arthur, bred by member Leslie Becker.
In Norfolk conformation, Pea, handled by Judi Hartell, P.H.A., was WB the first day and placed the other three days in a heavily contended Open Bitch class.
From Carlynn Ricks, reporting on Agilty events at Montgomery:
This year the NNTC sponsored one day of the 3-day trial associated with the Montgomery weekend. It was a big success. The Wheaton and Scottie clubs produced record heat, which dogs running outdoors (and their handlers) hate. We, however, managed a nice, cool rain, and our British dogs with their built-in raincoats, did great.
We had 8 Norfolk entered, with 7 present, and 12 Norwich entered, with 11 present. That was a far cry from the two of us who entered the one-day trial two years ago.
The agility scene is a far cry from the conformation scene. At the get-together dinner Thursday night, Norwich and Norfolk owner-handlers, as we all were, shared tips and cheers and sympathy. On Friday, NNTC board members Ellen Lucas and Alison Freehling commented on that very aspect of the trial, and on how slim and trim dogs and handlers looked.
There were lots of successes, each of which earned a prize on rainy NNTC day, Friday. My own Darcy, in his last agility trial ever, was successful in both his runs. (He's nearly seven, jumping higher than his back, and it's clear that it's getting to be too much for him, so we've started tracking lessons with a friend in Houston.) Skyscot offspring, Ollie and Scooter, were very present. Scooter gets my vote for cutest Norwich ever; at 18 months he looks like he's 6 months old.
In addition to agility, several of us got together for informal obedience work. You really haven't lived until you've seen 6 Norwich and Norfolk lined up in the Motel 6 overflow parking lot, doing out of site stays. (Two people stayed to keep guard.) Or until you've seen Stamp the Norfolk, star of several commercials, riding his skate board.
It was a fun weekend, I'm glad I made it.
Carlynn
Our first sanctioned B match has been postponed pending AKC approval. Please watch for updates on this event. Let's bring a good entry for judge, Pat Huber! If you need a premium list, contact Bob Becker, skyscot@gvtc.com
Rescue Update: we sent our last rescue girl out this morning to her new home in Minneapolis.Good work, Patricia and Marleen!!
Ichthyosis research: Dr, Dunstan who has been working on the Ichthyosis research at A&M has found the gene that causes it and they now have a test to determine if dogs are carriers, clear, and confirm affected. Details will be made availabe on our website as they are posted to us. What a terrific breakthrough this is for Norfolk Terriers!!
A word of warning: Recently a dog choked to death when the S ring for his dog tags on his collar caught on his crate. If you leave a collar on your dog, please consider a break-away collar for the safety of your dog.
