The Mary Morrisson Dancers
Our musicians play Scottish traditional dance music, ranging from ceilidh dances, reels, jigs, strathspeys, and waltzes to airs, marches and songs for listening enjoyment. We have played, performed and called dances for weddings, anniversities, celebrations, Burns dinners, and a variety of other events, including our own off-Broadway show at Poets Den, shows at Lincoln Center Damrosch Park, Carnegie Hall, Big Grey on Long Island, and many New York Street Festivals.
Our callers can lead a group of novice or experienced dancers in the traditional ceilidh dances of Scotland, such as Canadian Barn Dance, Strip the Willow, Dashing White Sergeant, Gay Gordons, St. Bernard's Waltz, Military Twostep, Highland Scottische, Virginia Reel, or even The Eightsome Reel (for experienced dancers), and many others. Dancers dance to the lively music of our ceilidh band (fiddles and keyboard, and optionally drums, guitar, and pipes).
Join us to learn traditional Scottish dances (from Step, Highland, National, Country, Ceilidh to Cape Breton) or to play traditional Scottish music for class and performance.
Our performers--dancers, musicians, callers, singers, pipers, kilted juggler--perform in authentic, native costume at Scottish events, Celtic and Renaissance festivals, weddings and other events and celebrations. Our performances can include a wide spectrum of Scottish dance styles, traditional music, mini-Gaelic lessons, songs, Robert Burns poetry, history, stories, and can include audience participation with singing and ceilidh dancing.
