Hey, Everybody!

Wow! What a great show and sale we had this year! I hope all of you were as pleased with it as I was. Not only did we actually make a respectable profit on the sale, but we put on an impressive show, as well. The judges kept going on about how wonderful our show was and how lovely the plants were. Our vendors seemed to be pleased, too. Both of them said they would like to come back next year. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the efforts of many, many club members. Thanks so much to all of you who entered plants in the show; to those who helped out with the setting up, tearing down, and during the event; and especially to those who donated monetarily for awards. This is such a great group of people, and I'm not just saying that because I'm the president! The vendors, judges, and garden center staff also said the same thing.

One small personal story: while I was helping at the cash register on Saturday afternoon, I had a close encounter with a cholla spine. I couldn't get the spine out of my finger when it first went in, nor could I get it out during the three weeks that followed. Finally, I made an appointment with my dermatologist, and he dug the thing out with a scalpel – after first numbing my finger, thank goodness. The nurse told me I won the prize for Most Unusual Procedure that day!

Please remember that our meeting will be on the second Sunday this month, September 14. This will be our free plant exchange, which is always a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I will be out of town, so I'll miss out on the plant swap. Gail will conduct the business meeting in my absence. Be sure to bring all your ideas about how to make the show and sale even better next year. This includes any suggestions you may have about the new show schedule. I've put in our request for 2009 dates. I asked for the second weekend of August again for our show and sale. Everyone I talked to seemed to like those dates this year. I probably won't get a confirmation back from the Garden Center for another month or so, but I'll let you know when I get one.
