Defending the Freedom of our Roads The Crucial Role of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs
Representing the interests of hundreds of thousands of enthusiasts who use historic vehicles in this country, the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs presents a united front to the politicians and legislators of Great Britain and Continental Europe in defending your right to enjoy the freedom of the road.
Founded in 1988 by combining the long established Historic Vehicle Clubs Committee and the Classic Vehicle Clubs Committee, the FBHVC represents a strong, united and successful movement which brings enjoyment to many thousands and generates jobs and income for many thousands more.
The FBHVC works tirelessly to monitor potentially harmful legislation at home and abroad, and is uniquely able to lobby our legislators from within through the active involvement of its President, Lord Montagu, who uses his position in the House of Lords to work for the benefit of the entire historic vehicle movement.
For its successful response to the threat of continuous licensing, and its services to the historic vehicle movement, the Federation was awarded the 1996 Penrite Trophy. A year later the FBHVC took the initiative and carried out the first ever survey of Britain's historic vehicle movement, revealing that this world-wide hobby, which began in Great Britain nearly 70 years ago, is a major contributor to the economy and generates a turnover of over £1.6 billion annually.
The pressures on our movement have never been greater. The Federation will continue to fight to maintain your right to use historic vehicles on the roads, for it is only by allowing their use that their preservation will continue.
Unity in the historic vehicle movement has never been more important; make sure that your club - or yourself as an individual member - is part of our federation.
