Paradox is a relational database which comes with the Professional version of WordPerfect Office Suite. A relational database allows you to create multiple tables of data and tie them together in a related manner. This tutorial does not deal with database theory or even how to create tables or forms in Paradox. Instead, it looks at how users of WordPerfect can better access data in Paradox.

Paradox was created and developed, in large part, completely separate from WordPerfect and does not share the PerfectScript macro language with WordPerfect and QuattroPro. As a consequence, Paradox is not as integrated with WordPerfect as one would like. Corel has tried to remedy this by through the development of Experts to help users. These Experts, however, are almost entirely developed from the database side. This tutorial looks at how to make these tools work together from a WordPerfect viewpoint. This tutorial was developed with WordPerfect 9 and Paradox 9. Most concepts, however, should also apply to versions 7 and 8.

This series begins with topics with which most Windows users are familiar -- the clipboard and OLE. The series then looks at importing data into WordPerfect from a Paradox table and how to automate this process through the use of macros and, in some instances, Paradox scripts or queries controlled from within WordPerfect.
