     The parker house

Construction of the native rock and brick, Cotswold style house began in 1917 by it's original owner, Mr. Rabourn.  Jim Parker purchased the unfinished house and the twelve acres it sat on in 1934.  When the work was completed in early 1935, Jim Parker moved his family into the house so they would be close to town and the schools.

Acquisition of the two sections surrounding the homestead made it an ideal location for gathering a herd cut from his other three ranches to ship to Fort Worth for auction.  The near proximity of the railroad tracks afforded the ease of a short trail drive to the loading pens west of town.

The ground floor rooms of the house have been restored like they were when the Parkers lived there.  Most of the furniture, dishes, linens and bedding in the house were there originally and were given to the museum by the Parker Family members.  Upstairs the rooms have been restyled as galleries for exhibit purposes.

There are several nice postcards, books, posters, and other promotional items available for purchase in the small gift area.  As a non-profit 501(c)3 entity, The Parker House Ranching Museum is supported entirely by small grants, donations and supporter memberships.  Your Donations are gratefully accepted.
