On the right are the Americanized
versions of the Chinese Chess pieces.
They are provided primarily for the
non-Chinese beginner. They make
learning easier.
After you become familiar with the
game, however, we strongly recommend
that you use the traditional Chinese
Chess (xiangqi) pieces.
Why? Because almost all books and
articles about Chinese Chess use the
traditional pieces. Because almost all
Chinese Chess sets use the traditional
pieces. If you don't learn the traditonal
pieces, you will be cutting yourself off
from the rest of the Chinese Chess world.
